Okoa Mombasa’s submission to National Assembly inquiry into use of SGR

July 13, 2020

Okoa Mombasa has submitted comments to a National Assembly inquiry into the use of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).

The National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Transport, Public Works and Housing called for the inquiry on 3 July 2020, and invited public comments on how the SGR could “promote mutual benefit for the government and stakeholders/citizenry.”

Okoa Mombasa said in its comments that based on a recent court case that ruled the SGR contract illegal, “the SGR (cargo) directives should not exist.” In other words, there should be no discussion over their legality, and individuals should be entitled to freely choose how they ship cargo from the Port of Mombasa.
